Thanks to everyone who entered the Goodreads contest to win one of ten copies of Awakening. I was thrilled and honored that 666 people entered (the number seemed fitting since my book is doing best in the Demonism and Occult category on Amazon). Well, a few days ago, the books shipped.
I’ve been thinking of trying to add something special to the books I signed, so I decided to take inspiration from little helper, Snowflake. While I’d like to think she loves my writing and enjoys books, in reality I think she just enjoys chasing the moving pen.
Half the books I sent have a special cat sketch at the bottom. Thankfully, I’m a better writer than I am sketch artist! Taking the books to the library felt like a privilege. I tried to imagine what the people receiving the book would think when they found it in their mailboxes. Would they be excited? Blase? Happy? Some of the packages I envied heading to warmer climes than my own as several ventured out to sunny Florida and California. Yet some hit close to home. One winner was from Yellow Springs, Ohio, which isn’t far from me, and another went to my neighbor to the south, Kentucky. Had I ever met these people? What would happen to my books when they arrived? It’d be exciting to find out.
The people behind me in line, however, didn’t think waiting for ten different packages to be weighed and stamped was as fun as I did. There was more than one nasty look.
I wish these books happy homes and their readers much enjoyment!
